Secret factory in my kitchen

My workers are red wiggler worms. As a gardener and recycler, I look forward to the worm compost result I receive every month. Imagine scraps of food like coffee grounds and eggshells, trimmings from garden produce. Then there is the shredded junk mail, newspaper and cardboard. Literally a free supply for workers, quietly and perfectly returning to me the compost that I will add to soil at a 1:10 ratio. Then the miracle and the mystery takes over.

The worms have processed the leftovers into microbes and enzymes and ‘friendly bacteria’, that when added to soil will work at microscopic level in the soil. I like to think, I am making soil, well at least I am participating in a good way. Some of the good things for soil are also benefiting plants. In a perfect scenario, the basics of temperature, moisture and Light would make soil do the job.

Worm compost takes the soil to a whole new level by providing plant enhancements. Plants build a protective level inside and out. Imagine, immune system and bug repellant, naturally. Healthy plants in healthy soil, self regulating better than expected.

Maybe you are a recycler, not a gardener. While you are reducing refuse to a minimum, what to do with the very valuable resource of worm compost. Ask around, there are friends to meet and enrich with your recycling…..

Its fun to make new habits when the reward is prompt and enjoyable.

Pretty quiet, I better check if the worms are working in the kitchen worm factory
